MoveOn Benefit at Hollywood’s M Bar
Los Angeles, CA – On Thursday, September 16, 2004, actress/activist Leonora Gershman and Los Angeles-based apparel company Clothing of the American Mind will host an evening of comedy, music, cocktails and political revolution at the M Bar in Hollywood. All proceeds from the event will benefit MoveOn PAC. The M Bar is located at 1253 North Vine Street on the corner of Fountain in the heart of Hollywood.
Leonora Gershman will host the evening, while Lou Santini, a well known stand-up and radio comic who has twice been voted Air Personality of the Year, hosts the comedy portion. Headlining the lineup of laughs is Andy Kindler and Laura Kightlinger. Andy Kindler is a fixture on Comedy Central and a recurring guest on CBS’s Emmy-winning Everybody Loves Raymond. He has appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, MadTV, Late Night with Conan O’Brien and HBO’s Larry Sanders Show. Laura Kightlinger has appeared in such blockbusters as Anchorman, Shallow Hal, Daddy Day Care and Down with Love as well as on television shows such as Will & Grace and The Daily Show. The opening comics will be Dennis Hemphill, Jr. and Natasha Leggero. Dennis Hemphill, Jr. has starred in the recent feature Bring It On Again and 2001’s The Whirlwind. Natasha Leggero has appeared in the films Dognapp’d, The Believer, Smoked Soul, Online and Personal Foul. She can be seen on this season’s Joe Schmo II and is currently shooting a pilot for MTV.
Once called “LA’s finest unsigned rock band,” Silver will headline the musical portion of the evening while the Coby Brown Group, Fingers Cut MegaMachine and The Sympathetics open. Compared to the likes of R.E.M. and The Lemonheads, Silver, led by vocalist/guitarist Brandon McCulloch, play their guitar-driven art rock. Songwriter Coby Brown sings his heartfelt lyrics while Fingers Cut MegaMachine play their usual jangly rock and The Sympathetics blend their three-part vocal harmony with acoustic purity.
Plentiful goodie bags will be gifted to the first 100 attendees. Sponsors include Clothing of the American Mind, Card Carrying Liberal, Bush League Seed Co., Drug Policy Alliance, The League of Pissed Off Voters, PoliticalClothing.com, PostGen, Punk Voter, Rock Against Bush, ReDefeat Bush, SacramentoGirlieMen.com, Axis of Eve and Simon & Schuster.
Clothing of the American Mind will be selling its hugely popular line of topical t-shirts, which have taken the nation by storm. The designs are politically themed, featuring darkly humorous slogans lambasting the Bush Administration’s wrongdoings. Tongue-in-cheek team names like “Axis of Evil Doers,” “Environmental Destroyers,” “Halliburton Overchargers” and “No Child Left Behinders” are printed on sweatshop-free American Apparel jersey t-shirts. There is also a full line of tees, tank tops, underwear, skirts, sweatpants, shorts and onesies encouraging all to VOTE on November 2nd.
The M Bar is located at 1253 North Vine Street and Fountain in Hollywood. Doors open at 7:30 pm. Comedy begins promptly at 8 pm; bands start at 9:30 pm. For directions, call (323) 856-0036 or log on to www.thembar.com. Tickets for the event are $25 and include free cocktails and a gift bag (first come, first served). Checks and cash will be accepted at the door. All proceeds from the event will benefit MoveOn PAC.
